“Friendship… is born at the hour when one man says to another “What! You too? I thought that no one but myself…” ~ C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves
For the last decade, Lanier and I have hashed out how to do Christmas over countless cups of tea, phone calls, emails, and hundreds of text messages. The theme is always the pursuit of a “simple” Christmas, one where we don’t find ourselves running ragged and “huffing about”—or at least catching ourselves when we do. At the same time, our desire is to keep Christmas, with the beauty and soul-affirming touches and trimmings that help our hearts honor the profoundness of the season.
There’s no throwing the baby out with the bathwater here. Rather, we seek to maintain a degree of sanity while insanely wrapping homemade gingerbread caramels (that’s all Lanier) in order to exalt the King.
Because everyone knows Jesus (probably) loves himself some candy.
In other words, we’re wrestling Christmas.
That’s what we’ll do here in this quiet corner of the bustling blogosphere—wrestle Christmas. From our homes to yours: the joys and frustrations, the projects and the project fails—with love from two wildly old-fashioned romantics with a pinch of OCD.
Yours in Christmas,
Laura and Lanier
